The campaign for the Ford Nature Center

Teaching the Next Generation

Since it's opening in 1972, Mill Creek MetroParks has used the Ford Nature Center as the core of natural science and nature based education programs conducted throughout the MetroParks' system. The Ford Nature Center is a place for learning and outreach into the community that has provided generations of local school children a memorable introduction to the natural wonders of the world.

After some 45 years after its opening, Ford Nature Center is at a critical crossroad. While it continues to attract a large audience for nature-based programming, both its exhibits and physical structure have become worn and outdated. Without corrective measures, this atrophy will result in conditions that detract rather than enhance the visitors experience. The ability to address these conditions and redevelop the Ford Nature Center depends on the successful adaptation of the grounds and structures to effectively act as the stage for new and enhanced exhibits and programs.

The renovation of Ford Nature Center is focused on three primary goals:

1. Provide the needed upgrades that allow the Ford Nature Center to continue serving the community as the primary resource on nature education.

2. Elevate the level of the visitor's experience and place it on par with or above other nature education centers in the region.

3. Increase opportunities to provide hands-on educational experiences. In the outdoors, this is achieved through the use of nature classrooms, learning labs and exhibits which are linked to the FNC.

The project goals are achieved by renovating this early 20th century structure to reflect a 21st century learning center that acts as a portal which allows individuals of all ages and abilities access to natural space in a very seamless fashion.

Project Investment : The complete renovation of Ford Nature Center is $3 Million
